If your business is VAT-registered in the UAE, the tax invoices you issue usually have to include a specific set of fields. This page explains what a compliant UAE tax invoice generally needs and gives you a checklist to download.
What you need to know first
A UAE tax invoice usually must show the words “Tax Invoice”, your name, address and TRN, a unique number and date, the customer details, a line-by-line description with the VAT rate, and the totals excluding VAT, the VAT amount and the total including VAT in AED. A simplified tax invoice may be allowed for smaller or retail supplies.

When to use this checklist
Use it when you set up or review your invoicing so that every invoice you issue is likely to meet UAE requirements, and before you rely on any invoice template you downloaded elsewhere.
What the checklist includes
- The mandatory fields on a full tax invoice
- When a simplified tax invoice may usually be used
- Language, currency and record-keeping notes
- A note on UAE e-invoicing (phasing in 2026-2027)
What it does not replace
This is a practical checklist, not tax advice and not an official Federal Tax Authority document. Rules can change – always confirm the current requirements with the FTA or a qualified tax consultant.
Common mistakes
- Leaving off the TRN or the words “Tax Invoice”
- Not showing the VAT amount separately in AED
- Using a non-sequential or duplicated invoice number
- Assuming a foreign template is UAE-compliant
