Who registers a Tawtheeq tenancy contract in Abu Dhabi

Ask a consultantThe landlord registers it. In Abu Dhabi the duty to file a lease in the Tawtheeq system falls on the property owner, or on the management company running the building. Tenants do not register their own contracts, which is the main way Abu Dhabi differs from Dubai, where a tenant often files the Ejari registration themselves.

An owner who prefers to do it in person can go to the Customer Service Centre at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City or one of its affiliated centres.
What this does not mean
Because the tenant is not the filer, a tenant chasing a missing registration has nothing to submit. The move is to ask the owner or the building’s management company for the Tawtheeq contract, and to treat a refusal as a warning sign before signing rather than a form to hunt down. Being named on a registered contract also proves nothing about who owns the property; that is a separate record.
