Biometrics is the fingerprint and photograph capture step in an Emirates ID application. It is done in person at an ICP customer happiness centre, after the application is submitted, and it is not always required: a replacement card can reuse the record already held.
This page answers the questions people actually ask about the step, and says plainly which of them ICP does not publish an answer to. Everything below was checked on 6 August 2026.
| Channel | Biometrics possible |
|---|---|
| ICP customer happiness centres | yes, in person |
| ICP Smart Services Platform | application only |
| UAEICP smart app | application only |

The deadlines that surround the step
These are published, and they are what actually constrain the timeline.
| Rule | What the government states |
|---|---|
| Report a lost card | within 7 days |
| Report a change of personal details | within one month |
| Late renewal fine | AED 20 per day, capped at AED 1,000, from one month after expiry |
| Urgent issuance | within 24 hours for UAE nationals, GCC nationals and certain expatriate cases |
Source: u.ae, Emirates ID, checked 6 August 2026.
The AED 20 per day figure is the one worth planning around: a card left roughly three months past its window reaches the AED 1,000 cap.
When a renewal can be filed
ICP states that the card can be renewed once it has expired, or when less than one year remains before expiry for UAE nationals and less than six months for non-UAE nationals. Source: ICP interactive services, checked 6 August 2026. If your card is close to that window, see Emirates ID renewal.
When biometrics is not required
A replacement for a lost or damaged card is issued for the same validity period as the original card, and the existing biometric record is already held. Whether a fresh capture is requested is decided case by case at application. If the card is gone rather than expiring, start with what to do about a lost Emirates ID.
How long after biometrics does the card arrive
ICP does not publish a standard turnaround on the pages checked. The only timing figure published is the 24-hour urgent service, and that covers issuance rather than the biometrics step specifically.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Standard time from biometrics to card | not published by ICP as of 6 August 2026 |
| Urgent issuance | 24 hours, for the eligible categories above |
| Where to check your own case | ICP ID card status |
Linking the status checker is the honest answer: an applicant can see their own case, which is better than an average that nobody can source.
What this page does not state
| Question | Status |
|---|---|
| Standard days from biometrics to card | not published by ICP |
| Emirates ID card fees | not published by ICP on its service pages |
| Whether a police report is needed for a lost card | no official source found |
| Biometrics centre opening hours | no official source captured |
Who handles this
From the Emirae directory, measured 6 August 2026.
| Measure | Count |
|---|---|
| Active consultants in the directory | 69 |
| Declare Emirates ID and residency processing | 3 |
| Cover PRO services | 28 |
| Cover visa and residency | 38 |
Three firms is a thin bench, and this page says so. Biometrics is normally a task a person completes themselves. Consultants matter when it is entangled with a visa and residency problem, which is what the 38 above cover.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I do biometrics for an Emirates ID?
In person at an ICP customer happiness centre. ICP does not name typing centres as a capture point on the pages checked (icp.gov.ae, 6 August 2026).
Can I do biometrics through the app?
No. The Smart Services Platform and the UAEICP app handle the application; the capture itself is done in person.
How long after biometrics will my Emirates ID be ready?
ICP does not publish a standard turnaround. Check your own case on the ICP ID card status page.
Is there an urgent option?
Yes, issuance within 24 hours, for UAE nationals, GCC nationals and certain expatriate cases (u.ae, 6 August 2026).
Do I need biometrics again for a replacement card?
Not necessarily. A replacement carries the same validity period as the original and the existing record is already held; a fresh capture is decided at application.
When can I renew an Emirates ID?
Once it has expired, or when less than one year remains before expiry for UAE nationals and less than six months for non-UAE nationals (ICP, 6 August 2026).
What happens if I renew late?
AED 20 per day, capped at AED 1,000, starting one month after expiry.
How long do I have to report a lost card?
Seven days from the date of loss, to ICP.
How much does the card cost?
ICP does not publish the card fee on its service pages as of 6 August 2026. Confirm it at the point of payment rather than relying on a figure from a blog.
