On this page 5 sections
Report the loss to ICP within seven days. That deadline is the only hard rule on this page and it is the one most articles bury. Everything after it – the replacement application, the biometrics, the delivery – runs on ICP’s normal service timetable.
This page sets out the order of operations, what ICP publishes, and one thing ICP does not publish that almost every other article on this subject states as fact anyway. Checked 6 August 2026.
| Rule | What the government states |
|---|---|
| Report a lost card | within 7 days of the loss |
| Report a change of personal details | within one month of the change |
| Late renewal fine | AED 20 per day, capped at AED 1,000, from one month after expiry |
| Replacement card validity | the same period as the original card – a replacement does not restart the clock |
| Urgent issuance | within 24 hours for UAE nationals, GCC nationals and certain expatriate cases |
Sources: u.ae, Emirates ID and ICP interactive services, both checked 6 August 2026.
The validity rule is the one that surprises people. A card replaced three months before its expiry is valid for those three months, not for a fresh term. Budget for the renewal separately.
Where to apply
| Channel | Type |
|---|---|
| ICP Smart Services Platform | online |
| UAEICP smart app | online |
| Customer happiness centres | in person |
Source: ICP, checked 6 August 2026. Authorised typing centres are widely named elsewhere as a fourth route; that is not stated on the ICP pages checked, so it is not claimed here.
The fee, and why this page does not give you a number
ICP does not publish the replacement fee for a lost or damaged Emirates ID on its service pages. Both the ICP services listing and the u.ae Emirates ID page were checked on 6 August 2026. Neither states a figure.
Every other article ranking for this query states a fee. None of them cites a primary source, and they do not agree with each other.
So: confirm the fee at the point of payment, in the ICP smart app checkout, before relying on any number you have read – including on this page.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Official replacement fee | not published by ICP on its service pages as of 6 August 2026 |
| Where to confirm it | the ICP smart app checkout |
| Late renewal fine, by contrast, is published | AED 20 per day, maximum AED 1,000 |
Order of operations
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Report the loss | To ICP, within 7 days. This is the deadline; everything else is sequencing. |
| 2. Apply for the replacement | Through one of the channels above. |
| 3. Biometrics, if requested | Not every replacement needs a fresh capture. |
| 4. Collect or receive the card | The replacement carries the original expiry date. |
Not every replacement needs a new capture – see how the biometrics step works.
What this page does not tell you
| Question | Status |
|---|---|
| The replacement fee | not published by ICP |
| A processing time in days | only the 24-hour urgent option is published |
| Whether a police report is required | not on the ICP or u.ae pages checked, so not answered here |
How many consultants handle this
From the Emirae directory, measured 6 August 2026.
| Measure | Count |
|---|---|
| Active consultants in the directory | 69 |
| Declare Emirates ID and residency processing | 3 |
| Declare PRO services generally | 28 |
| Declare visa and residency | 38 |
Three is a small bench, and this page says so. A lost Emirates ID is usually a task a person completes themselves through ICP. Consultants matter when it is tangled up with a visa and residency status problem, which is what the 38 above cover.
