Sharjah Islamic Bank, or SIB, is a UAE based Islamic financial institution headquartered in Sharjah. The bank was established in 1975 and transitioned from commercial to fully Islamic banking operations in 2002. SIB is usually a solid Islamic banking option for businesses that want Sharia compliant banking with a more regional and practical operating feel rather than only a very large scale headline institution. Its official materials show business banking products, business account options and broader Sharia compliant financial services. SIB is usually a useful option for SMEs, trading businesses and established firms that want Islamic banking principles combined with practical local business banking support.

The fall-below charge, which SIB calls a ledger fee, is taken monthly only when the average balance is below the minimum, and term deposits held by the same company count towards it. SIB documents differ on two small points: Platinum free teller transactions (25 in the tariff, 15 in a key facts table) and the Platinum fee for an expired passport or Emirates ID.
Companies with annual turnover up to AED 250 million and a valid trade licence; at least one partner or signatory must be a UAE resident. Sole proprietors are accepted, and a new licence is accepted with the owner's 6-month bank statement. The form has a field for free zone licences; offshore companies, freelancers and declined activities are not addressed.
You leave your details in the online form, call 06 599 9999 or visit a branch; the bank reviews the file, may ask for more documents and then opens the account subject to KYC checks. The account must be funded within 180 days, and SIB publishes no opening time.
Since 13 September 2026 a Central Bank of the UAE regulation for SME customers requires banks to complete account opening within three business days for applicants assessed as low risk, counted from the full set of documents, and caps other delays at two weeks; banks may not charge a closing fee once an account has been open for six months.

A quick read on where this bank is usually a stronger fit - and where another bank may serve you better. This is editorial guidance, not eligibility.
SIB is usually a stronger fit for operating SMEs, trading companies, owner managed businesses and established firms that prefer Islamic banking structures and want a recognised UAE bank with practical local presence. It can also suit businesses that want a Sharia compliant relationship without necessarily prioritising the biggest or most corporate style bank in the market.
SIB may be less suitable for applicants who do not specifically want Islamic banking and are only looking for the lightest digital first onboarding path. It may also be less ideal for very complex multinational treasury type cases or weakly documented applications where the business narrative, ownership logic or expected payment flows are not clearly explained.
Practical onboarding considerations - not bank criticism. Outcomes depend on the bank's own review.

From request to activation - what happens and how long it takes.
Sharjah Islamic Bank publishes no account opening time; it reviews the file and opens the account subject to KYC checks. The account must be funded within 180 days.

For SIB, the business narrative should stay consistent across the trade licence, website, invoices, counterparties and expected transactions. If the company has cross border activity or a layered ownership structure, stronger supporting documents should be prepared before approaching the bank.
Timelines depend on the bank's review.
