Ajman Free Zone Activity List: How It Works and What It Holds

Ajman Free Zone (AFZ) publishes its approved business activities as a searchable table on afz.gov.ae, with an activity number, ISIC code, licence type and description for each. This page explains how the list is organised, how many activities it holds, which activities can be combined and when another authority must approve. It was read on 4 October 2026.

How the list is split by licence type

The counts are ours, from the table as published on 4 October 2026; AFZ gives no version date for the list and offers no downloadable file. Each entry carries an activity number in the form AM-0xxxx and an ISIC code, the international industry classification that banks and authorities also use.

Trading activities and general trading

AFZ notes that its trading activities each cover the trading of specific products. The single General Trading activity (AM-03942) covers importing and trading all types of goods except those that need special licences. AFZ’s FAQ names the goods excluded from general trading as diesel, oil, crude oil, cars and garments.

Combining activities

• Service or commercial: AFZ’s FAQ says a licence should be either a service activity or a commercial activity licence.
• How many: the Ajman government portal lists commercial licences with one, two or three activities, or general trading. AFZ does not publish a price per extra activity.
• Only what is licensed: AFZ’s licensing guidelines prohibit practising any activity that is not on the issued licence.

Activities that need another approval

Some entries carry their own conditions in the description, for example a business plan, approval from AFZ’s health, safety and environment department, and a specific type of premises such as an executive office or shop. When you change activities, AFZ warns that external approvals, resolutions, lease documents or extra fees may be required. A 2021 Ministry of Economy list for Ajman Free Zone named examples of outside approvals: the Central Bank for banking and money exchange, the Ministry of Health for health activities, and the Ministry of Economy for auditors. AFZ’s FAQ adds that real estate activity requires a business proposal.

Changing activities later

An activity amendment starts at AED 500 on AFZ’s service catalogue. The new activity must be compatible with the company’s licence type, legal form, facility and business district, and the final fee depends on the case.

What AFZ does not publish

• Why its headline of over 3,500 activities differs from the 1,639 entries in the public table.
• A downloadable list or a version date.
• A price per additional activity.
• A complete, current list of activities that need outside approval.
