About this bank

About Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, or ADIB, is one of the leading Islamic banking institutions in the UAE and is licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE. Its business current accounts are structured as Qard Hasan, a non-profit bearing deposit, and are offered in five packages: Business One, Business Premium, Business Elite, Merchant Account and Business Connect. ADIB is usually a strong choice for businesses that want a clearly Sharia compliant banking relationship without giving up scale, digital tools and institutional credibility. ADIB is usually a strong Islamic banking option for operating businesses, trading companies and more established firms that want both compliance with Islamic banking principles and practical business banking depth.

How this bank fits a business

Which ADIB business account fits

  • Business Connect: AED 125 a month, no minimum balance, AED accounts only; built for start-ups and online use, with transfers abroad at AED 20 online and higher branch charges. Only for certain business categories accepted by the bank.
  • Business One: AED 450 a month with an average relationship balance above AED 5,000; 3 free teller transactions a month; available in several currencies.
  • Business Premium: AED 350 a month above AED 250,000; Business Elite: AED 125 a month above AED 750,000, with a dedicated relationship manager.
  • Merchant Account: AED 100 a month, waived above an AED 200,000 balance; for businesses that settle ADIB card terminal proceeds.
  • All fees are before VAT. There is no separate low-balance fee: twice a year, in June and December, ADIB places each client in a package by its 5-month average balance, and below AED 5,000 the account can be moved to Business One or closed. Clients with less than 5 months at the bank are left out. The current account is a Qard Hasan account.

Who can open it

The online route is for businesses registered in the UAE that are single-layered companies; Business Connect through the app also needs a sole proprietorship or single-owner company with one authorised signatory. ADIB does not publish separate rules for free zone or offshore licences, freelancers or non-resident owners, and decides each application at its discretion.

How opening works and how long it takes

Business One, Premium and Connect can be opened in the ADIB Direct app or portal; Elite and Merchant go through a call-back form or a business centre. ADIB warns that completing the application online does not make the account operational and it may ask the client to visit a business centre. It publishes no number of days, and the cooling-off right is waived when you sign. Closing within 6 months costs AED 100.

Since 13 September 2026 a Central Bank of the UAE regulation for SME customers requires banks to complete account opening within three business days for applicants assessed as low risk, counted from the full set of documents, and caps other delays at two weeks; banks may not charge a closing fee once an account has been open for six months.

Suitability

Who this bank may suit

A quick read on where this bank is usually a stronger fit - and where another bank may serve you better. This is editorial guidance, not eligibility.

Good fit for

ADIB is usually a stronger fit for businesses that specifically prefer Islamic banking, operating SMEs, trading businesses, owner managed companies and more established firms that want a serious institutional bank with a Sharia compliant model. It can also suit companies that want business banking support with a stronger trust and relationship angle rather than only a minimal basic account path.

May not suit

ADIB may be less suitable for applicants who do not specifically want Islamic banking structures and are only looking for the lightest possible mainstream onboarding route. It may also be less ideal for weakly documented early stage cases, businesses with an unclear operating story or applicants who expect minimal review despite more complex ownership or cross border payment flows.

Strengths & friction

Strengths and friction points

Practical onboarding considerations - not bank criticism. Outcomes depend on the bank's own review.

Strengths

  • Leading Islamic banking brand in the UAE with strong market recognition
  • Clear Sharia compliant proposition for business clients
  • Strong fit for operating SMEs and trading businesses
  • Institutional depth makes it suitable beyond only very small companies
  • Can make sense for businesses that want Islamic banking with broader practical support

Common friction points

  • Islamic banking preference does not reduce documentation and compliance expectations
  • Complex ownership or cross border activity can still create friction
  • Applicants should not assume a large bank means an easy approval path
  • Weak or inconsistent business narratives can slow progress
  • Some founders may need clearer internal understanding of how Islamic banking structures affect their case
Corporate banking outcomes depend on the bank's internal review, documents, ownership, activity and transaction profile.

Preparation

What to prepare before approaching this bank

A practical checklist. Complete documents do not guarantee approval - the bank makes the decision.

Preparation quality matters

For ADIB, the business narrative should stay consistent across the trade licence, website, invoices, counterparties and expected payment flows. If the company has cross border activity or more layered ownership, stronger supporting documentation should be prepared before approaching the bank.

Applicants should still expect normal UAE compliance review. A preference for Islamic banking does not remove the need for clear source of funds logic, beneficial ownership clarity and a coherent commercial rationale. At ADIB, preparation quality strongly affects the practical path.
Timeline expectations
