A salary slip – also called a payslip – is the monthly statement your employer gives you showing how your pay is made up: your basic salary, allowances, any deductions, and your net (take-home) pay. In the UAE it is used as proof of income and as a personal record. This guide explains what a UAE salary slip should contain and gives a clear template you can adapt.
What is a salary slip used for?
A salary slip is both a record and a proof-of-income document. You may need it for:
- Personal records – to track your pay, allowances and deductions each month;
- Loan and credit-card applications – banks often ask for recent payslips;
- Rental applications – as evidence of income;
- Visa or financial processes that request proof of monthly pay.
A salary slip shows one month’s detailed pay, whereas a salary certificate is a letter confirming your overall employment and salary.
What a salary slip should include
A clear UAE salary slip usually shows:
- Company and employee details – company name, employee name, designation, employee ID;
- the pay period (month and year);
- Earnings – basic salary, housing, transport and other allowances, plus any overtime or bonus;
- Deductions – any authorised deductions;
- Net pay – the total take-home amount;
- the payment method/date, often paid through the Wage Protection System (WPS).
Because UAE private-sector salaries are paid through WPS, your payslip should be consistent with what is paid into your account.

Tips and common points
Keep the basic-and-allowance split clear, because your end-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic salary only – estimate yours with the gratuity calculator. Make sure the figures match your labour contract and WPS payments, and keep your recent payslips, since banks and landlords usually ask for the last few months. If your employer does not issue payslips, you can request one, and a salary certificate can serve where a formal confirmation is needed.

FAQ
What is a salary slip in the UAE?
A salary slip (payslip) is the monthly statement showing how your pay is made up – basic salary, allowances, any deductions and your net take-home pay. It is used as proof of income and a personal record. It shows one month’s detail, unlike a salary certificate which confirms overall employment and salary.
What should a UAE salary slip include?
Company and employee details, the pay period, earnings (basic salary, housing, transport and other allowances, overtime or bonus), any deductions, the net pay, and the payment method and date – usually paid through the Wage Protection System (WPS).
What is the difference between a salary slip and a salary certificate?
A salary slip shows the detailed breakdown of a single month’s pay, while a salary certificate is a letter from your employer confirming your overall employment and salary for third parties such as banks and landlords.
Why does the basic salary matter on a payslip?
Because your end-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic salary only, not total pay. A package with a small basic and large allowances produces a smaller gratuity, so the basic-and-allowance split on your payslip matters.
