Visa Cancellation UAE

Visa cancellation is the official termination of a UAE residence visa. Once cancelled, the visa holder's residency status ends and a grace period begins.

Cancellation can be initiated by an employer (for employment visas), by the visa holder themselves (for investor or self-sponsored visas), or as a consequence of other actions such as company closure. The process is handled through GDRFA.

Visa cancellation is a routine administrative process - it happens every time someone changes jobs, leaves the UAE, or closes a business that sponsors visas.

Step 1: Initiate the cancellation. The sponsor initiates the process through GDRFA or an authorized service center.

Step 2: Submit required documents. Provide passport, current visa, employer authorization (for employment visas), and other required documents.

Step 3: Receive cancellation confirmation. GDRFA processes the cancellation and issues a confirmation.

Step 4: Grace period begins. After cancellation, a grace period begins during which the person can remain in the UAE to make arrangements.

Grace period rules vary by visa type. Under current regulations, the standard grace period is a defined number of days for most visa types. Golden Visa holders may have a longer grace period.

Dependent visas are directly affected. If the primary visa holder's visa is cancelled, dependent visas are also affected. Plan for this cascade effect.

Labor ban implications. Under current labor regulations, certain circumstances may result in a labor ban - a restriction on obtaining a new employment visa for a defined period.

Company closure requires visa cancellation for all staff. If a company is being closed, all sponsored visas must be cancelled as part of the closure process.
